Video Interview: BTL's Jan Kříž on PCBA Testing Automation
KINALI presents a video interview with Jan Kříž, Head of Hardware at BTL Medical Technologies, sharing how the company uses the Test-it-off platform to automate a part of their PCBA testing needs. The video, published earlier this year, highlights the practical experience of integrating robotic testing automation in BTL’s Benešov u Prahy facility.
BTL Medical Technologies is one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of medical equipment, operating in more than 70 countries. They produce over 400,000 PCBAs per year across roughly 300 product types. The production environment is highly variable, with small batches typical of High-Mix, Low-Volume manufacturing. Maintaining testing capacity under these conditions is challenging, especially amid a continuing shortage of skilled operators.
To address this, BTL implemented Test-it-off by KINALI to automate part of its PCBA testing needs. The system runs autonomously for up to six hours and integrates with existing ICT and FCT testers. It enables 10 minute product changeovers and stable test performance while requiring only minimal operator involvement. The solution saves significant labour hours and helps maintain consistent quality without expanding the workforce.
Key takeaways from the interview include higher tester utilization, reduced manual handling, and efficiency gains in daily production. The automation supports BTL in meeting growing production demands while keeping testing capacity stable and scalable for new product types.
“The cooperation with KINALI was exceptional,” says Jan Kříž. “We built a solution that both teams are proud of and that brings real efficiency to our testing operations.”
The interview is part of KINALI’s ongoing effort to showcase how modular automation supports European electronics manufacturers facing labour shortages and rising efficiency demands. Watch the full video at https://youtu.be/-SnNvi-c9PE
